Hi, I’m Doug

I am a hands-on accountant who will help you to quickly establish the right admin in the right areas of your business. As we work together, you will gain an understanding of why you need effective admin that lives in harmony with the revenue-generating side of things and adds value to the forward momentum of the business.

I know how difficult it is for you to run your small business. I know this because I have been there as well.

You’re doing your best, but you’re not sure which are the best things to be doing and what is the best way to be doing them. It would be really great if there was someone to help and show me what needs to be done and maybe carry some of the load.

I have been involved with accounting, financial and business management for over 30 years. In this time, I have experienced how companies work both large and small – in times of growth and in times of recession.

What I have learned throughout this time (by being in there doing it) is that a business’ journey is all the more smoother if robust, effective administrative processes are in place. Without these things, the journey is one long fire-fight interspersed with unpleasant surprises.

What I have come to realise is that a good admin system is not enough; to be effective you need to know why these processes are in place, know how they add value to your business and to have the discipline to run them consistently.

How do I know this?

The first part of my career was all about accounting and financial management. This took me from trainee auditor to finance director over the span of 25 years. Looking back, that’s a quarter of a century of full-on experience in different business sectors and job roles.

One day I made the decision to leave the safe space of corporate employment and strike out with my own entrepreneurial ventures. My wife & I have since set up and run numerous small business ventures – from hospitality, to wedding cakes, to web design. All have been different and a ton of fun – much better than the corporate machine.

Our small businesses have all had one thing in common – the right administration from day 1. By doing this we have been able to keep a tight hold over how the business is set up, what’s going on in the business, where the business is going and how much profit it is making at any point in time.
